Owner Trish Wescoat Pound’s designs for men and women combine luxury with homeyness and familiarity. The store consists of two adjoining rooms, one of which holds items from the Haute Hippie label and the other of which holds items from the brand’s sartorial twin, the more casual Haute Hoodie. Wescoat’s original line, Haute Hippie, consists of women’s dresses, skirts, and tops—few pants—that look like they were conceived on a ranch, then fashioned from silk and covered with embellishments that range from embroidery to sequins. Lit by crystal chandeliers, the room is lined with racks of spaghetti-strap blouses, rustling skirts, dresses of patterned chiffon with rivulets of sequins and beads, elegant silk vests, and jackets with cowgirl fringes; for those who want to show some skin, there are sequined backless tops and miniskirts. One room over, shoppers can cover up with Haute Hippie’s brightly patterned sweatshirts and Mexican-style ponchos. These woolies are meant for layering and look warm enough for hunting the deer whose antlers grace the light fixture dangling from the ceiling.
