With its rounded beige-wood walls and ocean-themed displays, Honora’s midtown store has a design almost as elegant and organic as the pearls it sells. Pearl necklaces are draped over gnarled coral in glass cases that are set into the walls like aquariums. Chinese freshwater cultured pearls make up most of the collection, but there are also pearls from Tahiti and the South Sea. Round, white specimens can be found, though many of the pieces are more rugged-looking and pastel-colored freshwater varieties. Every item incorporates pearls in one way or another, whether they are set among white gold and diamonds in a ring, or inlaid in the face of Honora’s exclusive line of women’s watches. In the back of the store are a series of cubbies filled with loosely strung pearls, and the charming sales staff can help shoppers design customized pieces. — Alex Littlefield
