Husband-and-wife owners George and Sandra Baker combined their experience working for art dealers and auction houses to open Hudson City Antiques 2002. The Bakers specialize in early electric lighting, stocking turn-of-the-century lamps and chandeliers with milk-glass shades and old Edison light bulbs with the filaments showing. They also focus on antique wooden picture frames and on smaller furniture items suited to apartment living, such as drop-leaf and side tables. Artwork from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries graces the walls, with a focus on old pictures of old New York. And the city inspires the store’s only new items—exclusive glass paperweights containing vintage postcard images of the Big Apple.
