Profile

This tiny, volunteer-run bookshop in Crown Heights makes the most of its 250-square-foot space. Giant wooden shelves stretching from floor to ceiling are packed full of treasures, from books and Moleskine notebooks to vintage globes and antique postcards. Cubbies are dedicated to literary favorites like David Foster Wallace, Marcel Proust, and Haruki Murakami. The bookstore is also a great spot to find new authors worth reading. Every other Tuesday, Hullabaloo holds Crown Heights Writer’s Society meetings as well as a monthly art discussion group. The store hosts events with Think Olio and has held travel, storytelling, and local entrepreneurship classes. At times, the little shop looks like it may burst at the seams, but that’s all part of its charm. If you’re lucky, the store’s clerk might even show you the secret bathroom behind the bookshelf trapdoor.
