Husband-wife design team Nelson and Sisi Li showcase their line of lush knitwear in this modern East Village pop-up shop. Although the Iisli collection is sold in Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks, this boutique marks the brand’s first stand-alone retail location. The apparel is displayed in a stylized 1,000-square-foot white-on-white room dubbed the Cube, complete with customized overhead lighting and a small army of elegantly clad white mannequins. The shop fits into the existing space like a puzzle piece—a row of green velvet theater seats fill the excess space near the entryway, and plants grow in gaps between the side walls. Rolling racks display the label’s versatile fall/winter 2008 collection of workwear, including feathery cardigans and knit blazers, shapely pencil skirts, and simple sweater dresses in wool or silky viscose blends. Glitzy beaded cocktail dresses stand out among the muted rows of black, white, and heather gray, like a shimmery gray knit frock covered in sequins or an Empire-waist dress with Swarovski beading on the sleeves. The portable shop will remain on Bond Street until February 2009, when it will be dismantled for future stop-offs in Las Vegas, Miami, Tokyo, and Paris.
