Situated among the bustle of Hunter College, this swimwear collective brought its slinky styles to the Upper East Side in December 2007, seeking out storefront space on Lexington—not Madison—Avenue, where the bodies are younger, harder, and as quick to party-hop as globetrot. With soft lighting, flattering mirrors, and beachy décor, the 700-square foot spot calls to mind the pricey comfort of a seaside suite. Recessed shelves bear gold-swirled sarongs, silk tunics, gauzy shifts, and a rich selection of bohemian bikini tops and bottoms etched with florals, bits of shells, beads, and exotic minutia. Accessories are replenished every three months with an array of vibrant pillows, sturdy beach mats, woven bags, and simple sandals fit for the yachting set. Braving the fitting room in these skin-baring creations takes a bit of confidence—the small space is sectioned off by a flimsy curtain and shares footage with the cash register. But the dark-wooden blinds up front aren’t just ornamental: they’re drawn at a customer’s request for privacy.
