Iosselliani avoids the city’s more saturated shopping districts in favor of the space and novelty provided by the NoMad hotel, just shy of midtown. In addition to their seasonal releases, designers Paolo Giacomelli and Roberta Paolucci have four permanent collections, which they expand upon each season in keeping with a given theme. The Classic Rock collection merges glam white gemstones and dark metal chain necklaces. Their signature oxidization technique, in which long strands of metal change color from black to bronze to gold, is used to great effect in both the Indian Summer and Black Hole Sun collections. The more refined and ultra-high-end Puro includes delicate gold filigree skull pendants made along the Ligurian coast and earrings that look like engagement rings. The showroom sports hanging lights from painted black rafters, high ceilings, and white walls. An enormous white plaster gorilla, named King Kong as a nod to the Empire State Building six blocks away, sits at the back of the room between burgundy velvet curtains. All the jewelry is in glass cases, so help from the sales associates is required, but they are enthusiastic and kind, and it’s hard to leave the store without trying something on.
