Although he is considered an established designer and household name—winning four CDFA awards, starring in the 1996 documentary Unzipped, and hosting various TV series, including The Fashion Show on Bravo—Isaac Mizrahi didn’t have a boutique of his own until September 2009, when he launched this flagship. From the simple rolling racks to the design sketches displayed along one wall, the store’s vibe is a markedly more relaxed than the surrounding Madison Avenue boutiques. The long, narrow shop showcases Mizrahi’s full ready-to-wear collection, including classic American sportswear, cocktail dresses, handbags, shoes, and jewelry. Mizrahi’s overall aesthetic is feminine and ladylike—appropriate for the spot’s Upper East Side locale—but look for unexpected twists in color and detailing. A curtained-off couture room in back serves as a workspace for custom-design pieces, and in-house tailoring is available by appointment.
