This former singer-starlet's eponymous flagship deals exclusively in made-to-measure clothing, hence the mostly four-figure prices. Rogers—who appeared in 8 ½ at the urgings of Fellini himself—was one of Coco Chanel's most celebrated models in Paris during the sixties. Before she returned to the United States to launch her TV career, she learned to design clothing in the hands of Chanel herself, and still credits the legendary couturier as one of her primary inspirations. Hardly a slave to trends, Rogers is known for her straightforward shapes and obsession with fit and flow: Rather than sketch, she tends to drape fabric—be it French lace or python—on mannequins to help determine the cut. Her gazar separates and charmeuse gowns appear on Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman, not to mention legions of Manhattan socialites who need something to wear for their next big charity ball. (Her signature rosette-trimmed organza jackets are big with the philanthropic set, many of whom have one in every color.) Along with power pieces like portrait-collar suit jackets and brocade pants, Rogers also creates curve-conscious evening dresses and—true to her training—classic little black shifts.
