Profile
Jay Godfrey picked the space for his first stand-alone boutique, which is located right underneath the Highline in the meatpacking district, for its unique architectural framework—the ceiling is an amalgam of exposed railroad underpass and cement fixtures, lending a raw feel. The boutique’s industrial aesthetic is contrasted with more polished chrome touches, including a giant fitting room that looks a bit like a surrealist space probe. Amid this modernist background, the wares’ bright colors stand out even more than they otherwise would. The store stocks the full womenswear collection, including an extensive range of Godfrey’s vibrant party dresses, along with accessories like jewelry and scarves. The meticulous attention to detail is apparent not only in the racks of geometric-cutout frocks, but in the neatly culled selection of Assouline coffee table books for sale and the Jay Godfrey–labeled bottled waters, which the staff passes out to thirsty looking customers.
