J.Crew transformed this 500-square-foot shop adjacent to its Soho outpost from a kids’ Crew Cuts location to a J.Crew accessories boutique in June 2009. The space has an arty, modern aesthetic, with colorful abstract paintings decking the dark-gray walls and oversize leather handbags shelved beside coffee-table tomes on Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, and Elizabeth Peyton. Necklaces, chandelier earrings, watches, and bracelets are draped over polished branches in glass cubes. Most all jewelry is priced at under $100, from layered chain necklaces to clustered pearl bracelets. The baubles incorporate rhinestones, glass beads, enamel, brass, and gold plating in various delicate and statement-making arrangements. Satin heels, metallic ballet flats, and embellished sandals line the back wall and shoes and trinkets are mixed together in cubed shelves. — Lauren Murrow
