There are chain stores. There are boutiques. And then there’s Joe Fresh. The Canadian brand flagship occupies two stories of a building on Fifth Avenue and has price tags as low as the H&M across the street, but it’s anything but a retail zoo. The space underwent a twelve-month renovation prior to opening, and the clean, white, contemporary interior makes for a relaxed shopping experience. The brand was launched in 2006 by Joseph Mimran, known for launching Club Monaco, among other fashion lines. With a wide selection of men’s and women’s basics (and cosmetics, too!), and a color palate ranging from brights to neutrals, the Joe Fresh collection is reminiscent of classic American lines like Gap and J. Crew, only shoppers pay what seems like pre-inflation pricing (i.e. a cotton shift dress about half of what you’d have to pay for it elsewhere). Also of note is the friendly personnel, the lack of obnoxiously loud music, and the short line for the dressing room. Even better— there’s no limit on the number of items you can bring in.
