Tunisian-born owner Joe Cohen runs this sprawling, two-level Lower East Side operation with his niece; she does custom jobs on upholstery, drapery, slipcovers, and pillows in the sister store uptown. At both locations, the draw is good deals on opulent fabrics, trims, and tassels from the U.S. and Europe and on embroidered silks from India. The cluttered top floor showcases thick rolls of velvet, jacquard, brocade, toile, cotton, and silk, while the tiny downstairs area focuses on trimmings. Cohen buys in bulk, enabling him to provide the same quality fabrics as a larger chain at a third to half the price. — Katie Hintz
