It’s difficult to pass by John Derian Dry Goods without letting your curiosity take hold of you. Before you know it, you’re seduced by a well-designed window display to go inside and touch and marvel at every trinket and fabric in sight. This offshoot of Derian’s original decoupage palace two doors down focuses on imported textiles with a touch of rusticity. Stacked alongside vintage furnishings, you’ll find Lisa Corti’s vibrant Italian linens, Moroccan-inspired throws, and simpler, cream-colored quilts that are more about not making a statement than anything else. It’s the perfect antidote to stainless-steel modernism. That $2,200 vintage beach chair might look odd in your East Village studio so consider the Belgian bedding instead.
