Since 1977, this spacious Upper East Side shop has been drawing locals with its huge selection of ready-made frames, diverse custom-framing options, and wealth of photo accessories. Among the ready-mades are themed frames for Halloween, Communion, and nearly every other occasion; hard-to-find sized frames (like 8.5 in. by 11 in. and 4 in. by 4 in.) from Galassi and Tizo; and frames made of everything from sterling silver to cattle bone. Husband-and-wife store owners Kris and Karen Johnson make sure even the most inexpensive frame has sturdy spline corners. Mat cutting and custom framework is done in-house and takes three to six weeks for completion; choices include frames that are hand-carved, gold-leafed, or crafted from gesso and clay. The store also carries bookmarks, pens, photo boxes, photo albums, and stationery (personalization available).
