Purchased in 2007 by designer Serge Azria, who’s also behind the denim brand Current/Elliott (and brother to Max Azria of BCBG), Joie offers up carefully-crafted prints in a variety of versatile silhouettes. At this Upper East Side shop, the first U.S. store for the brand, seventies-inspired music plays softly in the background while shoppers peruse neatly hung silk blouses, feminine cashmere-blend cardigans, and a selection of footwear that includes strappy gladiator sandals, knee-high riding boots, and high-heeled ankle booties. As for the décor, it includes a hand-painted bird mural, a large white peacock that sits atop the store’s fireplace, whitewashed walls, and herringbone floors. There are also cozy armchairs for companions in need of a rest.
