Scandinavians were among the first of many groups of immigrants to make Bay Ridge home, and those roots are still evident at Leske's Bakery, an old-fashioned emporium known for its bread and sticky Danish and Norwegian pastries. There are no tables in this narrow storefront shop, but locals often line up on weekends to take home fresh bread or luscious, nut-studded coffee rings and fruit filled sticks. Like most good bakeries, Leske's also offers made-to-order cakes and an array of tender, traditional butter cookies sold by the pound. The black-and-whites are also particularly popular—and among the first to sell out.
