Linus is like the walk-in closet of a minor Hapsburg of limited means, stocking stylishly formal clothes in quality materials, but with an eye toward value. The Spring Street boutique is Linus’s first store outside Germany and is no bigger than a large closet, yet it covers all the basics for the well-dressed gentleman. Two walls hold racks of suits made with Italian new wool in classic, dark colors, as well as a few tuxedos. Shelves on another wall proffer a selection of patterned and solid cotton shirts—mostly French-cuffed. Meanwhile, a wood shelf in the corner smartly displays scores of patterned silk ties. Linus partners directly with Italian manufacturers to deliver their sleek suits, shirts, and topcoats with a minimum markup. As a result, you can pick up a fine full ensemble without pushing the total bill into the four digits. — Jed Egan
