Known as much for their cuddly teddy-bear mascot as for the plush sleepwear with its image, LTJ Arthur started as a French underwear store in the early eighties and has since expanded into related areas like loungewear and beachwear. A good chunk of its business is still in undergarments for both children and adults. The Arthur Club line of boxers, for instance, has cotton-mesh inner lining, Paul Smith–like stripes and colors, and price points in the mid-double-digits. Other items, like lustrous beach towels, brushed-cotton bathrobes, and cozy head-to-toe PJ sets have the same focus on comfort but bear different animal icons; some come emblazoned with a jaunty wooly mammoth, others with a block-headed bull terrier. Arthur’s also has its own take on a French footwear classic: the charentaise slipper—similar to a Vans slip-on sneaker but lined with lambskin and ideal for serious lounging.
