Peggy Patsis has owned and managed this straightforward gift shop since 1999. She originally envisioned a candle emporium (hence the name), but her collection evolved to include table lamps, handbags, framed prints, and small leather accessories. There are plenty of surprises in the narrow space: The rotating stock on the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves might include crystal-studded cases for business cards or lipstick, Pucci-inspired fabric headbands, and aromatherapy-room diffusers. The jewelry collection has a particular allure, in that Patsis mixes sterling silver and costume pieces, both delicate (simple circle pendants) and in-your-face (blingy cocktail rings). Lumiere also carries a fairly extensive range of kitchen and tabletop items; colorful, whimsical wares from the French company Pylones are especially popular among the shop's clientele, which includes loyal Park Slope locals and strolling visitors from outlying nabes.
