Nichi Kashihara opened this avant-garde Lower East Side boutique in 2003 to promote Japanese designers. The striking garb showcases all the mixed patterns and quirky glamor of Tokyo’s ever-changing fashion industry, and Kashihara is the exclusive U.S. stockist for many of the brands. Kashihara was a buyer for eight years in Tokyo, and he takes frequent trips back East to keep up with the trends: ripped short shorts, rainbow-colored shoes, bright flannel shirts, and half-satin sweaters among them. The selection features popular Japanese brands like Murua and Hysteric Glamour, whose apparel is typically (deliberately) tarnished and sequined. Accessories include trucker hats, belts, and rare, co-designed Nike sneakers.
