Profile
Formerly known as Our Name is Mud, this paint-it-yourself ceramics studio became Make in 2006 when new management took over. Host to bachelorette parties, corporate events, and children's birthdays alike, Make caters to all ages and creativity levels. The walls of the Second Avenue location are lined with more than 400 unfinished white ceramics—espresso cups, dip platters, hand mirrors, a princess-themed collection—and dotted with colorful, completed examples for inspiration. Crafters sit at seven primary-colored tables and use the store's paints, brushes, and stencils to personalize their selections, which the store glazes and fires within three days. Walk-in customers pay per piece plus a half-hourly rate; yearly members get free weekday table time. There are also classes for youngsters, grouped by age (2 to 4 years old, 4 to 8 years old, and 6 years old plus). Always microwave- and dishwasher-safe, the customized items are popular holiday and housewarming gifts.
