Profile

This venue is closed.

Cosmic Comics closed up shop in January 2011, but the space now has new ownership and a new name: Manhattan Comics & More. Walking the path to the entrance—past the minimal signage, the entry buzzer, the dim stairs—evokes a sense of walking through a series of panels from one of the noir-ish books sold here. Once inside, however, it's another comic book altogether, suffused in light and color. The small shop fills a particular niche in the city, providing a complement to comic book stores that concentrate more heavily on toys and games, character statues and figures. Manhattan Comics offers all of these in spades, but it particularly excels in graphic novels, trade paperbacks—bound collections of previously-published series—and back-issues from the Modern, Silver and Golden Ages—basically, 1940 to the present. (The store has a stock of over 250,000.) New books from big publishers DC and Marvel as well many indies come in every Wednesday, and the store offers a subscription service, pulling books for hundreds of customers on a weekly basis with a 20% discount. Big spenders, take a note: Cosmic gives $20 store credit for every $100 worth of purchases.
