This spacious menswear shop represents streetwear scion Marc Ecko’s first foray into a slightly dressier realm. Cut & Sew, launched in 2004, pairs the designer’s signature graffiti-inspired graphic tees with more structured, layerable basics, like colorful patterned button-downs, fitted corduroy blazers, and dark wool sweaters. Denim in a dozen washes hangs on metal hooks, and back pockets are embroidered with a scripted “E” for Ecko. The décor includes blatant nods to the club scene—an oversize Smirnoff bottle in the fireplace, a chandelier made of beer bottles—and macho found objects like a mini army tank and an antique gas mask. Airbrushed canvases by Ecko himself deck the walls near bookshelves bearing titles like Ali Rap, 70s Fashion, and racy photo anthologies by Ed Fox. Watches with crystal-studded faces and thick leather bands provide bold options for accessorizing. But though Cut & Sew attempts to elevate some aspects of Ecko’s established street style, the brand retains signs of its youthful base: Some of the store’s best sellers are tees from the Star Wars collection, screen-printed with images of Storm Troopers and Darth Vader.
