Designer (and, incidentally, also Crown Princess of Greece) Marie-Chantal runs a global children’s clothing chain that has a presence in London, Los Angeles, Athens, and at this petite, softly lit Madison Avenue space. Resembling a deep walk-in closet, the store sorts its clothes for boys and girls (from 9 months on up) into recessed racks and shelves on separate sides, under the glow of simple, frosted-glass lamps. As one might expect, there are elegant suits, dresses, and tops and bottoms fit for royalty: sharp brown cashmere sweaters, herringbone coats (with puffed sleeves for the girls and elbow patches for the boys) and silk-lined, pinstriped navy wool suits. The more dressed-down pieces, such as they are, maintain a conservative, fine aesthetic; for instance, there’s the girls’ skating coat fringed with fur cuffs or the quilted jacket for boys trimmed in corduroy and fastened with gold buttons or the beret-and-scarf set knit from alpaca wool.
