Marlo Lorenz majored in design at Fashion Institute of Technology and worked in fashion for years before deciding to go out on her own with a line of pillows and blankets called Thro; her eponymous line is a higher-end offshoot. This showroom in the New York MarketCenter sells to the trade only, not to the general public, but Lorenz’s wares can be found in upscale stores like Neiman Marcus and Horchow. Lorenz creates textured pillows and blankets by pairing luxe materials with unusual embellishments, such as hammered bronze sequins on silk or seashells on jute. Each coordinating collection has a theme: Her Legendary collection was inspired by old movie stars and includes a Bette Davis pillow with metal grommets and a Jean Harlow pillow with beads on leather. Her popular sea-focused 5 Star collection features Bali and Bora Bora styles with starfish and seahorses in soft pastel colors. And her Safari collection models a signature giraffe-patterned pillow accented with wooden and glass beads.
