Massimo Dutti launched in 1985 as a menswear brand; womenswear was added ten years later. Its first U.S. flagship is a palatial space on Fifth Avenue filled with several stories of ready-to-wear with a classic Italian sensibility. The store holds clothing for all occasions plus a slough of accessories: leather bags and shoes, jewelry, sunglasses—even dress watches. The third floor is solely devoted to menswear and runs the gamut from casual shirts, colorful jeans, and a myriad of cashmere sweaters to suits. Employees who serve as personal stylists can help shoppers determine what looks best on them, and there are complimentary alterations.
