The opulence of the Plaza Hotel makes a fitting setting for the ultraluxe bauble shop Maurice Fine Jewelry. Elaborate trinkets gleam from the windows of the quiet, low-lit boutique, located right within the hotel’s 58th Street entrance. With eye-popping karat sizes (an 18K ring! A 22K necklace!), the jewelry is geared toward the ladies who lunch. There are brooches in the shapes of salamanders and frogs (with ruby eyes), teddy-bear charms, and necklaces and bracelets resembling coiled snakes. More classic—and ageless—pieces include strands of multicolored salt sea pearls interspersed with precious stones, paper-thin gold hoop earrings with pavé diamonds around the inside edges, and chunky cocktail rings.
