English-only customers will have to do a bit of detective work at this Greek flag-festooned Mediterranean market as the bulk of foods don't have printed translations, the staff will gladly answer any questions. Honeys, jams, coffees, pastas, pickled veggies and frozen foods—like moussaka, spanikopita and octopus—are among the assortment of packaged goods filling the aisles. The real draw, however, is the fresh-food selection: a self-serve olive bar, an enormous yogurt section, baskets of dried fish, and a cheese counter in the back with more than ten kinds of feta. Next door, in the adjoining butcher space, lamb, pork, chicken, quail and rabbit are prepared using Old Country skills—non-squeamish types can watch workers skin the animals right behind the counter. — Justin Hartung
