Those who rummage the racks at Metropolis are less likely to find an old Chanel tag than an old athletic jacket that, if the embroidery at the shoulder can be trusted, once belonged to a boy named Matthew. A go-to spot for many a young, edge-seeking East Villager, the vintage shop stocks a healthy collection of retro dresses, jeans, suits, and boots, and offers excellent deals on all clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories from the sixties, seventies, and eighties; prices rarely go beyond double digits. Owner Richard Colligan is a lover of old-school urban fashions, and started selling pieces at flea markets in the mid-eighties before setting up shop in the early nineties. He's also a frequenter of the underground rock scene (see flyers at the door) and a diehard Ramones fan, so the store also packs in both new and vintage-style rock-and-roll tees, and the occasional Toxic Teddies Ramones figurine set.
There are always random markdowns, but just about everything goes on sale after Christmas (January through February).
