Just outside of Woodstock, glassblower Michael Anchin’s studio is filled with a gorgeous array of tall, twisting vases arranged by color. Anchin learned the craft at a glassblowing co-op on Mulberry Street in the early eighties and worked out of a storefront in Brooklyn for a few years before moving his studio upstate. He fires each piece in huge furnaces in the back, from basic paperweights and drinking glasses to majestic, wildly patterned orb lamps. Large one-of-a-kind bowls (ranging from $40 to $400) and elaborate glass-and-metal lamps make popular wedding gifts or accent pieces for interior designers.
