Profile
Fashionable neighborhood women in search of a “bargain” steal away to this two-floor consignment shop situated above a deli. The used designer merchandise is virtually untouched, with nary a dainty tread worn off the Prada and Louboutin heels. Nothing is more than two years old, save for the occasional vintage piece from Chanel, Hermès, or Pucci. The shop splits proceeds 50/50 with the consignors — often Upper East Siders who retire their clothes and accessories as soon as the season changes. Prices are usually set at half the original retail value and can soar as high as $6,500 for fur coats or a Birkin bag. Brides-to-be head for the upstairs back wall to hunt for deals on designer wedding gowns. — Rachel Corbett
Monthly Markdowns
If an item’s out of your budget, check back in a month. Everything is marked down 20 percent each of the first two months it’s in the store. In the third month, it’s finally reduced by 50 percent. For bridal, items are marked down 20 percent every sixty days. After six months, it's reduced by 50 percent of the original price.
Bridal Most bridal designers won’t accept returns—even if the big day is called off.
This second-floor shop is where many new or almost-new Vera Wang, Priscilla, and
Badgley Mischka creations end up—at far more modest prices than they commanded
the first time around ($395 to $2,800). Those willing to put up with cramped
quarters and half-hour dressing-room limits will be richly rewarded.

I am not what you would consider consignment savvy. I have wanted to however add to my designer collection of clothes without paying full price. I recently stumbled upon Michael's the other day and I'm still glowing from my amazing Missoni, Gucci, Louboutin and Chanel finds. Most of my purchases still had the original tags. I'm now telling all my friends. It's simply a must before making the trek to crowded department stores or putting up with snooty sales associates at the designer boutiques. I really think that the sales girl who assisted me made all the difference as a consignment newbie. She didn't rush me, established immediate credibility and had excellent suggestions. She wasn't pushy about it either - just showed me how to shop consignment. I look forward to going back!
I just stumbled upon this place and I think I died and went to heaven. I almost didnÂ’t review it because I wanted to keep it all to myself. But, alas, the cat is already out of the bag. I understand MichaelÂ’s has been in business, in the same location, since the 1950Â’s! That is some staying power. And their experience shines through. This consignment store has only the best of the best. High-end designers galore! From Chanel to Prada to Balenciaga to Marni to Miu Miu to Gucci. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I love handbags and boy, does MichaelÂ’s have their fair share of amazing bags. IÂ’m planning on raiding my own closet so I can consign some of my bags to make room for new ones. What a great place!
