It's only fitting this boutique—named for Paris’ onetime artists’ mecca—is a melting pot of contemporary fashion design. A regular spot for those unwilling to scour shoebox-size stores for a little downtown edge, the uptown chain gives Phillip Lim, M Missoni, and Chaiken dresses just as much rack presence as shifts by smaller names like Milly, Walter, and Shoshanna. Though frocks are Montmartre’s bread and butter, ranging from about $115 to $600, the creative corporate set can stop in for Theory trousers and Trina Turk blouses, whose subtle embellishments hint at the party girl within. J.Brand jeans and bright, casual staples by Free People and Splendid provide relaxed, weekender style for brunch with the girls. For finishing touches, there’s an array of belts and a case with playful bangle bracelets and cocktail rings; a handful of shoes and bags are scattered about, too, and there’s usually a tiny shelf of lacey Hanky Panky thongs. — Eileen Conlan

When i walked in the door, a sweet woman came up to me and asked what i was looking for. She helped me find the perfect pair of J Brand Corduroys and despite the fact that half the store was 50% off and this pair of pants weren't, i still had to buy them! No this store isn't a cheap place, but it is perfect! They have everything i wear and need!
I have been shopping at the Madison Ave. store for years. I discovered my favorite Trina Turk pants there! At one point, the manager would pull clothes I might like and call me. I cannot afford to shop there much anymore, but it is fun and I get no attitude for being a size 12 in a size 00 social Xray neighborhood.
The staff has changed over the years, of course. The girls are nice- ask for help if you want it. I have found the behavior of customers toward them appalling on many occasions. They are just doing their jobs- it is very friendly for an Upper East Side boutique. The buyers pick interesting things. It is not Macys, so do not go looking for discounts. But the service is nice- I feel like a princess for a day when my hubby gets me a gift certificate there. And he gets kudos from the staff for being patient, chatting with them and having a good eye for what will look good on me.
