Parsons grad Mami Suzuki fills this narrow boutique with her own msg. line of silky, expertly draped dresses and jackets, as well as a roster of hard-to-find designers from Japan. Named after the initials of Suzuki and her cat, Galax, the msg. collection reflects her own fondness for eye-catching, versatile clothing that transitions from work to weekend wear. The apparel lines a single, store-spanning rack, emphasizing organic fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen. The attention to detail is evident, like a puffed, ruffled collar on a checked yellow vest, delicate lace overlays covering silk skirts, and gold thread sewn into dresses for a subtle sheen. Design-savvy shoppers can appreciate feats of construction, like Japanese knits woven from single yarn for more natural draping. But you don’t have to be an aspiring designer to covet the selection of satin jumpers, feminine shirtdresses, and jackets from established and up-and-coming Japanese lines, including Ilian Loeb, Y-WA-I, and Face Too. Even the accessories diverge from Soho’s surplus of dainty chandelier earrings and charms, with standouts like Suzuki’s hand-carved wooden-dice necklace suspended on a thick gold-plated chain.
