Profile
It’s run out of a single room (and a small one at that), but the Mulberry Cigar Company packs a lot into a very limited space: floor-to-ceiling cases of cigar boxes line the walls, as do shelves of accessories like humidors, cigar cutters, and weighty glass and marble ashtrays. Customers can get wind-resistant butane lighters by Colibri and Quantum and choose from among hundreds of stogies. Most of the standard brands, like Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey, Nat Sherman, Romeo y Julieta, and Montecristo, are surprisingly economical; novelty Playboy or Sopranos cigars don’t cost much more. Most alluring may be the store’s own affordable line of handmade cigars. Available in four different blends of Dominican tobacco and six different sizes, Mulberry Street Cigars are rolled on the premises every weekend and stored in a walk-in humidor until needed to restock the front-of-store bins. Mulberry also hires out its cigar-rollers for private events such as weddings and birthdays.
