The name of this home-décor and specialty gift shop references a wily villain from DC Comics; that sense of playfulness informs the inventory as well which features porcelain molars that double as toothbrush holders and metal antler sculptures that multipurpose as ever-so-curious coat racks. Not everything is kookily conceptual, however. Also in stock are South American natural-fiber lamps from La Vida Verde, agendas and notebooks from Leuchtturm, and substantial furnishings such as the sleek industrial desks and chairs. Much of the regular clientele returns for diminutive treasures between larger purchases: Le Corbusier–inspired model homes, an interactive, all-ages line from Chronicle Books, and an indispensable wall of greeting cards—some homemade; many of them, not surprisingly, quirky. — Alexandra Vallis
I always shop at Mxyplyzyk for unique and hard-to-find items. I am not surprised to see that they are one of the best bet stores recommended by nymag. I purchased a Funtote Gerbera tote bag from them a while ago, it came with 4 well designed pockets, and an elegant style, it's eco-friendly and bio-degradable, after all, it didn't empty my wallet!
I have purchased from Mxyplyzyk for several years now and have to say that a some of my favorite things in my home are from there, including a couple of my lamps and tables, as well as glassware and vases. The past year or so tho it is just not as interesting as in the past but what bugs me more than anything and the reason I dont go in more often is because the guy who I understand is the owner is such a sourpuss. Never asks if u need help and never seems to appreciate your business. I will say tho, that the guy and girl that are usually behind the counter are extremely helpful and gracious, but that owner has no customer skills at all. Not sure how or why he ended up with this store.
