With countless wooden dressers, side tables, and armoires stacked on top of one another and scattered in the aisles, Nadeau, at first glance, feels like any other jumbled vintage furniture store on Antique Row. However, one look at the price tags is all it takes to realize the difference. The chain gets their inventory handmade in India and Indonesia and sells everything at wholesale prices, which means shoppers can walk out with a vintage-looking mahogany desk without breaking the bank. As the tagline (“Furniture with a soul”) suggests, the Nadeau aesthetic leans towards the whimsical: curved legs, brass hardware, and a weather-beaten color spectrum of worn whites, soft greens, and pale blues abound. Most items are made from either mahogany or shisham, an Indian rosewood, and the inventory changes frequently. Furniture fiends must arrange delivery on their own, but for a unique piece at less than the cost of an equivalent at Ikea, it’s well worth a look around.
