Profile
This pop-culture-inspired workshop creates customized tees, tanks, hoodies—even underwear—while you wait. Sample apparel in a dozen shades covers a full wall in the narrow shop, each item printed with a black box that reads “Your Idea Here.” Styles range from “The Carlton” polo and the “Wolverine” fur-lined hoodie to infant onesies and women’s boy shorts. Shoppers pick out a garment, choose a font style and color, and one of the on-site seamstresses stitches, embroiders, or screen-prints visions into reality on the spot. Rows of electric sewing machines outfitted with neon spools of thread line the windows for quick lettering and embroidery, but letters are individually sewn on by hand for sweats and tote bags. For the indecisive, the store also carries a line of ready-made designs, including duds with tongue-in-cheek television references, political endorsements, movie quotes, lyrics, and anime characters. Prices start at $10 for personalized lingerie and top out at $50 for the original Neighborhoodie.
