Founded in 1936 by husband and wife collectors, family-owned Nesle is known as a preeminent destination for decorative antiques, primarily serving discerning collectors and haute decorators. Specializing in lighting fixtures, the ceiling of the store drips with chandeliers—gilded, crystal, porcelain, wrought-iron and embossed—that stop, glittering, inches above most patrons’ heads. Most are European period pieces from France, Italy, Russia or Austria, many made by notable 18th- and 19th-century designers. Nesle also creates reproductions of original and vintage designs, all made in Europe by expert craftsmen. In addition to overhead illumination, find Asian vases and enameled cigar boxes, intricate gold wall candelabras that look straight out of The Phantom of the Opera, as well as charming silver coach lamps, intended to light a long, pre-war drive (or apartment hallway).
