At her designer consignment and resale shop, effusive owner Maggie Chan isn’t interested in peddling what’s hip or trendy: Her focus is on classic, quality, and wearable clothing that sells. That means keeping her prices low (items top at around $300) and holding monthly sales (older merchandise is regularly marked down 20 to 50 percent). Chan’s modest, pastel-colored shop carries a combination of new and oh-so-gently used clothing and accessories acquired through fashion industry insiders—stylists, editors, models—so the collection comes mostly in small and sample sizes, typically size six. Despite the “resale” aspect, there’s not a retired pair of sweatpants or crusty Steve Madden platforms in the joint. Chan sells high-end dresses, coats, sweaters, skirts, shoes, purses, and accessories by well-known designers like Cynthia Rowley, agnès b., Prada, and Dolce & Gabana, intermingled with equally pristine vintage pieces, like cashmere turtlenecks from Bergdorf’s and Barney’s, and a small assortment of antique jewelry.
