Stenciled on a whitewashed wall just inside the entrance of this former furniture store is proprietor Nili Lotan's design philosophy: "Neither loud nor aggressive, clothes should be clean and sophisticated." It's a sartorial stance Lotan has clearly adhered to in her eponymous line of women's clothing. Sleek slacks, little black dresses, and sumptuous cashmere sweaters hang from a dry cleaner's conveyor rack in the front window while flouncy tiered camisoles and gauzy neutral button-ups dangle daintily from the spacious shop's few garment racks. Work-ready staples and cocktail-party frocks may dominate the inventory, but Lotan infuses a bit of whimsy into her collection with patterned spring items and a resort line of bikinis, sheer shirts, and beach-appropriate pants. Several of Nili Lotan's shelves are dedicated to art history and pop-culture tomes.
