NJB, a tiny clothing shop that’s been in residence on Eighth Avenue since 1979, doesn’t have a sign announcing its presence to passersby. Instead, colorful racks of bohemian-looking pieces hope to catch your attention via the surrounding lime-green decor. The store’s content has evolved quite a bit throughout the years—for example, they no longer stock pants because, frankly, they didn’t sell. What does sell, however, and what you’ll find in lieu of jeans, shorts and slacks, are countless shirts and dresses. Standard, cotton tee’s in bold, solid colors are folded and displayed to the side, while classy blouses and tunics with lively patterns are grouped together by color, as are prairie and V-neck wrap dresses and several versions of the little black dress. Accessories are also a huge part of NJB’s identity, so when it’s blustery outside, socks and hats replace flip-flops and sunglasses as customer favorites, while three-quarter-length winter coats take over for loose-fitting, cotton attire.
