Profile
In 2005, stylists Morgan Yakus and Karin Bereson quietly commandeered this 1,000-square-foot storefront at number six (blink-and-you-miss-it) Centre Market. The boutique capitalizes on Yakus’s exclusive secondhand sources acquired trading on London’s Portobello Road and Bereson’s sartorial skills gained while styling for glossies. Once customers are buzzed in, curtains pull down to ensure their privacy. They peruse racks of vintage — 1970s peasant blouses, Missoni scarves, and the odd African-print sack dress — as well as new designs, like Electric Feathers’s silk noile shirt dresses, pleated shorts by Christian Wijnants, and a beaded Madame à Paris disco-dream mini-dress. Arielle Depinto necklaces hang like silver spiderwebs on a black wall, and spare shelving houses Katana’s structured leather bags and No.6’s own dresses, also sold at Barneys.
