Unlike the many antique furniture stores in the area, Nova Zembla’s focus is on reasonably priced original and custom pieces. The owners of the spacious, organized Brooklyn Heights store design all of their own cabinets, shelves, and tables, which are then crafted of solid rosewood in India. Sofas, chairs, and ottomans are from L.A.-based upholstery manufacturer Cisco Brothers, and customization is encouraged: A selection of 80 frame styles, 1,200 fabrics, and 80 leather shades are available to work with. But not everything is new at Nova; in fact, the most charming finds may be smaller-scale products like antique tin coat hooks, candlesticks made of vintage banisters, and ceramic plates tinted a robin’s-egg blue. — Bree Sposato
