Even though the wool sweaters, chunky knit cardigans, and colorful capes that make up this store's "virgin vintage" stock were all manufactured between 1947 and 1974, they were preserved in a vault upon production and have gone unworn since. In 2004, Steven Tatar, then a sculptor, was rummaging through some scrap metal at the abandoned Ohio Knitting Mills in Cleveland—once one of the nation's largest producers of knitwear for companies such as Pendleton, Sears, and Saks—when he discovered that thousands of sweaters, dresses, and men's "poor boy" tops were left over from when the factory shut down. The factory owner's son gave Tatar access to the collection, and he opened up this Brooklyn shop where he now sells it. Pieces arrive from the factory every two weeks or so, providing a continually changing selection of classic American craftsmanship.
