She's best known as a former model and the wife of artist and film director Julian Schnabel. But Olatz Schnabel also studied design in her native Spain and for the past several years has been creating custom linens for private clients' homes. She's gone public with a West Village store, Olatz. She designs all the simple, mostly solid, thick-bordered cotton and linen patterns herself, in bold colors like lime green as well as more subdued yellows and blues. Most are made in Italy, and some feature appliqué work that's done in Portugal. There are also towels, bath mats, and robes for adults. It all makes us think Julian Schnabel must sleep pretty well; now the rest of us can, too.
