Profile

This venue is closed.

Om Sweet Home’s winsome owner, Justine Franko, is a production designer and certified yoga instructor, and she let her practice guide the direction of her Williamsburg home-furnishings shop. One of the eight tenets of jivamukti yoga (Franko’s specialty) is nonviolence—including nonviolence toward the earth—and Franko accordingly fills her shop mostly with goods that are recycled or organic—from furniture rescued from film sets to glassware made from old bottles to toothbrushes created out of post-consumer plastic. Perhaps the most ambitious of all are the rustic beds and tables fashioned by local craftsmen from downed telephones poles supplied by a Connecticut power company. Franko also stocks vintage women’s clothing as well as some new pieces like Nature 89’s affordable, slim-fitting tees and hoodies made with organic cotton and ecofriendly dyes. Customers can even custom-cut their own goat’s-milk soap while Leo, Franko’s sleepy Yellow Lab, watches from his crash spot on the store’s floor.
