Comfort and affordability—high fashion, not so much—are the focus of this shoe store, just steps from the 86th Street and Lexington Avenue subway station. The men’s wall showcases loafers by Clarks, Birkenstocks, Rockport boat shoes, and hybrid sneakers and sandals by Merrell. On the ladies’ wall, chunky sandals by Naot and Merrell and sport-hybrid versions by Patagonia hold court. Dressy loafers (some in embossed patent leather) by SAS and Clark ballet flats round out the nine-to-five selection. Athletes of both sexes can choose from New Balance and Saucony sneakers and flashier designs by Diesel and Puma. The kids’ section at the back of the large, square store carries infant through youth sizes in many of the adult styles, plus a colorful array of mini-Hunter boots and an enviable selection of ballet flats—including sparkly, polka-dot, and woven leather versions—for girls. — Katie Hintz
