California-bred Ashley Thompson’s Zenlike boutique is a stark contrast to the ubiquitous fashion chain stores in Union Square. Owl’s Lab caters to the postcollege working girl just as much as it does to the NYU and New School students who live in the area. Handbags by Rebecca Minkoff, for instance, can function as either a book bag or a trendy weekend tote. There’s a fresh mix of folded cotton tees by Sharon Segal and C&C California, stacks of jeans by J. Brand and Citizens of Humanity, and work-appropriate silk blouses and dresses by Rebecca Taylor. — Alexis Brunswick
I agree equally that the girls at Owl's Lab are really sweet. I actually also think that they have a totally different vibe in what they buy than Barneys or other big department stores. It has a really yummy feel when you walk in and its always full of stuff. I thnk its a lot like Planet Blue in malibu (which I'm obsessed with!) If you are a shopper- you need to go check out Owl's Lab. Not to mention, they do online sales all the time.
I also love Owl's Lab because of the girls in the shop. They're awesome, it's one of those places where you can go to shop without your girlfriends and know that the girls will be honest.
The thing is . . . if you're really a shopper you can find most of the stuff for about 50 bucks cheaper somewhere else. And if Barneys is having a sale, forget about it, we're talking about 50-60% cheaper.
That said, it's right in the hood so when you need an impromptu outfit, Owls Lab is a sure bet! Their pieces are pretty unique so you don't have to worry about seeing your clone out on the town.
