Located three blocks away from pet-supply store Beasty Feast, Pariero is a haven for indulgent dog owners looking to spoil their pets with unconventional spa services and haute doggy couture. The first U.S. location of the pooch-pampering Japanese chain is a leash-free zone; you’ll find friendly, stylishly clad pugs and Chihuahuas scampering about as their owners browse the wares. On the walls, photos of dogs dressed as Elvis and John Travolta (circa Saturday Night Fever) hang next to rows of detailed dog ensembles (many topping $100) by brands like Pink & Gold and Paris Erotica, including jean jackets, tutus, white leather jackets, plaid schoolgirl jumpers, puffy vests, and a popular line of glam rock T-shirts and hoodies emblazoned with the Rolling Stones logo. The dog spa, sectioned off in the back of the shop, offers traditional grooming services as well more unusual fare, like pawdicures ($20 for nail clipping, filing, and a colored polish of your choosing), hair braiding/beading, or miniskirt-flattering “bikini shaves.”
